Wyman-Gordon Company
In 1910, this coal-fueled power plant helped produce steel parts for the rising auto industry and railroad companies. It was purchased by the Wyman-Gordon Company in 1920 in order to produce military airplane components. The company was highly successful - and profitable - during WWI, WWII, and both the Korean and Vietnam wars. However, after military budget cuts following the Cold War, and an unsuccessful attempt to sell the plant, the company shut down part of it's division in 1986, leaving near 350 people without jobs. This plant was one of the only buildings spared demolition.
